The Department of Paleozoology invites you to the open lectures Pliocene-Quaternary subfossil megafauna in cave sediments in the south of Eastern Europe
In this lecture, based mainly on the authors’ own research together with colleagues, the results of the fossil Pliocene-Quaternary megafauna, the subfossil remains of which were found in cave deposits of various karst regions in the south of Eastern Europe, will be summarized. The main regions are: the Crimean Peninsula, the Northern Black Sea Coast, Bukovyna and Podillia, and the Ukrainian Carpathians. We will analyse the peculiarities of the burial and preservation of these remains in different geological conditions, their biodiversity and the results of further laboratory studies and dating. Prospects for further research of cave deposits to obtain complete information about the fossil megafauna of the Quaternary period in this area and its interaction with fossil man will also be highlighted.
Bogdan Ridush is a professor at the University of Chernivtsi. He is a world-renowned specialist in issues related to caves, karst phenomena, geomorphology, paleontology, taphonomy and archaeology, with particular emphasis on the area of Ukraine and Central Europe. He obtained his doctorate in 2000 and habilitation in 2013. He is the author of numerous scientific publications. He collaborates with numerous specialists and research centers. The history of cooperation with the University of Wrocław dates back to 2007. We conducted excavations together in Crimea and Poland. For several years we have been running the International School of Karst and Speleology for students from the Erasmus program and the Arqus alliance.
